We are a group of concerned citizens who live and raise our families on the North Shore. We understand that Long Island has been bludgeoned by developers like RXR for nearly a century. The North Shore represents the sole remaining portion of Nassau County that has, to a point, resisted this blight of over-development.
The City of Glen Cove is a city in financial trouble. But the entire North Shore community should not pay the price for their fiscal malfeasance.
Many North Shore residents do not yet realize the size and scale of this proposed development. Make no mistake — the proposed Garvies Point mega-development is unprecedented in size and scope – anywhere on Long Island.
Sitting right on our shoreline, this development would generate over 3,000 more cars traveling on our congested roads each day. There are unanswered questions about how the toxic site’s clean-up could pollute our beaches and Hempstead Harbor. And of course, there are the proposed 11 story monolithic eyesores many that would irrevocably alter the landscape of the North Shore for all residents. The purported financial returns (or lack of) also call into question the validity of this mega-development
Why is Glen Cove footing some of the enormous costs for this project on borrowed funds, despite grave warning from the Comptroller of New York? What are they basing their budget on “future projected revenues” tied to this project? These too are questions that have never been satisfactorily answered.
With a mayor and planning board determined not to listen to local citizens or respect the North Shore’s storied history as a bucolic, residential community, it’s time for all of us to unite and take action.
